Suvs just seem to be safer because they are biiger. Although the impact of a vehicle such as a car to an SUV wouldnt be as great as a SUV to a vehicle, there are many other reasons. Because the sport utility vehicle is bigger, it is able to be seen alot easier than a car. On the other hand, a car has a better chance of flipping over that a SUV because its less in weight.

1)      When you’re looking at a web site, how do you decide whether that web site would be suited for citing in a research-based essay for our class?

Answer:  When using a website, you should look at the author or publisher of the site and see when it was posted or the date of it. The most updated is better than older stuff, see if the author or publisher is known or has other credited work. Also check to see if the URL matches the cite.

2)      What does “critical thinking” mean to you in practical terms, that is, as applied to everyday    situations.

Answer:  To me critical thinking is like a process of thinking. Gathering ideas and choosing where to go with them and what are the possibilites of those ideas.

3)      When you’re analyzing an article, what parts of the text are you looking at and what is it that you’re doing as you read?

Answer:  When analyzing an article, you want to look for the authors view and position of his topic. You want to see what key facts he has and how good he supports them. You also want to see whether you relate to his facts and have something you agree with.

4)      What does it mean to say that writing is a recursive process? For that matter, how is reading a recursive process as well?

Answer:  Writing is a recursive process because you always have to go back to where you began to see if you have not gone out of topic and may change a few thing. Writing is not a straight process.  It is all tied down to the beginning. Reading is also a recursive process because it may take a few times to reread things to get the best understanding. You might catch something you might of missed when you first read it. Its all a part of constructing.

5)      Whether you’re working on a formal essay on your own or in a timed-exam situation, how do you make use of the various stages of the writing process?

Answer:  Well it any type of constructing a paper, you want to brainstorm ideas and pick a side or topic. This does not just happen and it may take sometime. Brainstorming is always the best way to start off.  The next is step would be to plan out as to how you will approach it and shape your writing. You want everything to be smooth and flow onto the next. Next is to begin writing the develop the writing. This is where you put your ideas and back them up with support. After completing you want to revise your work so you know it makes sense and check for errors. After writing it you may think or see something different where it can make better sense. All of this is a process and steps to how to approach an essay.

6)      What’s the difference between a thesis statement and a topic sentence? How is the organization of the essay related to the thesis statement and the topic sentence?

Answer:  The thesis statement is your view, topic or side that you are on and what your overall essay or article going to be about.  Your topic sentence supports your thesis. It is a evidence or reason as to why you chose your side in the thesis. For example,  the reader should know  what your overall paper is about, which is the thesis. Your support and reason as to why you chose it is your topic sentence.

7)      Describe three specific ways to open or close an essay.

Answer:  When opening your essay, you want to grab the readers attention. The reader should know what the paper is going to be about. When closing an essay, you must tie is back down to your thesis and beginning. Finally, it must summarize about everything you wrote about when closing.

8)      Why are transitional phrases and sentences important to use throughout your essay?

Answer: They are important because it makes the essay be read smootly and with a good flow. It should easily connect with the next subject so that the reader will not get confused and it overall shapes and makes the essay better. It makes it easy to be read.

9)      What might you do to achieve an essay that shows clear and precise expression of your ideas and a deliberate organizational structure?

Answer: You want o have a clear opinion and topic from the beginning. You also want to use transitional phrases to make your essay run smooth. Strong support is good to also have because it ,akes clear as to why you feel the way you do. Before all this you want to brainstorm ideas. Discovering, planning, developing, revising and completing is also the best way as to how you can do it all.

CRITICAL THINKER

What i picked up from reading and going through the tutorial was that there are many ways in which the internet may throw you into a different direction and get you to get a bad grade on a paper. Im the type of person that looks for info and based on this tutorial, was all wrong. Now after going through it, i can see of what sources to look for based on what they end (com, gov, edu, org). Also, what to look for in sources to see whether the information is outdated or has been reviewed or in a primary source. Also, how to correctly use sources and not copy paste information without giving the author credit. The internet has a lot of information but i now know that anyone can put anything on the internet for as long as they want, it can be misdated and incorrect as well as just opinions. What also helps is what specific questions to think of as im going through a journal or article. Who what where seems to be helpful to find good articles or sources. What also seemed to help was the quiz on the site because it made me understand that what i was picking up i was able to do and take it in correctly.
